Currency Conversion Fee Antitrust Litigation
I got a thing in the mail last week about the Currency Conversion Fee Antitrust Litigation. It’s an official-looking form asking me to fill out information about my international travel between 1996 and 2006, because I’m eligible for a refund due to a class action lawsuit against Visa, Mastercard, and Diners Club due to overcharges in currency conversion.
Here’s the official website: http://www.ccfsettlement.com/
It sounded awfully hoaxy to me, but Snopes says it’s for real:

I thought that might be of interest to those of you who do a lot of international travel. I estimate that I spent 134 days abroad during that time, so we’ll see what comes of it.
It’s times like this when being a meticulous blogger really pays off. I was able to go back through my blog for much of that period and be reminded of all the trips I’ve taken, as well as the duration, because I always post “I’m leaving tomorrow and I can’t wait to get out of here” and “I’m back, here are my pictures” entries.
I got the same thing in the mail. Unfortunately, I was only out of the country for 8 days during the time period, for my trip to Rome. I wish it had been more!
I got the same thing, and God knows I haven’t been out of the country farther than Mexico in the last…37 years. That said, my reading of it was that it covers any international purchases. So, if I bought something online from England, I’m eligible. I figure I might go ahead and submit it for the default $25 payment and see what happens.
Thanks for this. You know…I got this in the mail and dismissed it…tossed it right away because I was busy and heading out the door to go out of town. I estimate I spent 116 days out of the country during that period. I filed online. Thanks!!
I was still worried so I call my Visa company and they confirmed the website and phonenumber. So looks legit… I would call your bank to confirm, even though the mail said don’t call.
I got one of these too and can only assume it’s because I bought foreign goods on eBay and some of the currency conversions on PayPal were charged to my credit card of record when I had a zero balance. I’ll opt for the easy settlement and collect $25, which certainly would be far less than I spent importing video games. W00T. (M-W word of the year too!)
Thanks! I think I deleted an email about that. I spent over 400 days out of the country during that time, so I think I’ll get some money back! Yay!
Thanks for the info! I was checking on Google to verify the form I got in the mail and was brought to your page. Nice blog/info! Thanks!
I checked my passport, new one and an expired one (that’s why I saved it!) and counted the days between stamps. Seems pretty easy to take Option 2.

Hi admin. I was just looking for for some informations on this topic in order to write an post in my new blog. Can I post a link to this post on my blog ? Thanks. Pedro
I got a check today from this settlement. The “default $25” is only $18.04 because the lawyers fees were $13.875 Million and there wasn’t enough left over to pay all the claimants in full. But hey, it was enough to pay for lunch!
I got an $18.04 check today too! Hey, can’t complain!
Got mine yesterday! Thanks for posting this, I wasn’t sure if it was legit.
Got the $18.04 check. Woopee! LOL
I got the $18.04 check this week as well. Just wanted to see if it was legit. Looks like it is, thanks for the previous posts.
We received a check $18.04 and was afraid to cash it until reading this. Thanks all for posting! Not much but hey, it will buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks huh.. LOL
Too bad the lawyers rip so much money on a deal like this!
