Flood-o-rama
I just realized this might not be the best time to go a week without posting.
As many of you know, much of Iowa (including our town, Iowa City) has been severely damaged by flooding. We are currently at my parents’ house in Ames, which appears to not be in serious danger. It looks like our house in IC is fine; we’re far enough from the flood plain that it shouldn’t be an issue. On the other hand, every estimate the weather-types have made thus far has under-predicted the actual damage.
My brother just moved to Lincoln, NE, to start his new job. It’s a good thing, because his former street is under water. He hasn’t fully moved out yet; luckily he had a second-floor apartment, so while it’s totally inaccessible right now, at least his stuff is probably okay. There’s only one bridge left in town, which was our main reason to choose Ames as a hang-out location: even though our house and neighborhood are okay, we would be stranded. There’s also a high potential for losing electricity and water.
The only silver lining is that it seems to have brought Britney and Kevin back together.

Aprille-
Our neighborhood is fine. The creek is handeling the extra water fine… It rises a little with the rain and then it goes right back to normal. So far so good. There was some hail so I hope you didn’t leave any cars outside.
Your comment about the photo is unnecessary and insensitive. Not everyone has had as privileged a life as you’ve had. Why make remarks about people insinuating they’re white trash (and yes, that’s the definite implication) because they dress a certain way or don’t have nice things?
that comment is ironic because britney and kevin are definatly not in want of nice things. also they have TWO kids. im glad you’re ok Aprille + family!
Thanks for the update, Aprille. Watching the reports on the news each day is just baffling. Glad you are all safe, parents and brother included.
My sister lives in Cedar Rapids. She is married to Jack’s brother-in-law. They’ve been keeping us updated over here in Utah and I just can’t imagine how crazy that would be!
I’m glad you’re safe (and my family too).
Dude, Joe, it was just a joke. I didn’t mean that the people were “white trash” or anything, just that they choose to emulate the personal aesthetic of a couple of celebrities (who, as Liz pointed out, are not poor in the slightest). At least the guy does. That’s who I noticed more than the woman.
I hope they are safe and healthy.
