Haunted by sitcoms
This kid is great at abstract art, and not just in a novelty way.
I didn’t sleep very well last night. I woke up in my sleepwalking frame of mind (the one where I truly believe I’m awake, but no one else seems to), and I was convinced that there was a woman in the room. I think it was the actress who played Paul’s sister on the show Mad About You.
Anyway, I was mad at Denny because he never told me someone was coming over, and my underwear were lying around. Plus it was weird that there was some lady in my room in the middle of the night.
You know, I like Liz Phair, especially on the album Exile in Guyville, but she’s actually a pretty bad singer. My friend John’s sister Shannon, who is an opera singer, pointed this out to me once, and I got a little huffy because I do like Liz Phair. I said I enjoyed her for her songwriting skills, not her vocal talents.
But geez! I was just listening to a live performance, and she’s really quite bad. Shannon said she’s really well post-produced, in terms of pitch correction and stuff. That must be the case. She can’t hit any note that’s not in a really narrow range.
Oh well. I still think the song Girls! Girls! Girls! is a modern classic.
You can also find her stuff on her web site (naturally) at http://www.marlaolmstead.com/.
Yes, Liz Phair IS a really bad singer. Thank you! I’ve been saying this for years. I mean, I like her lyrics and the music and all, but good lord watching her on late night TV or some other live performance is just painful.
