Warm New Year

This has been the global warmingest winter ever.  It was supposed to be crappy on New Year’s Day, and that didn’t happen.  It’s 45F today and supposed to be warmer tomorrow.

It’s all very peculiar.

New Year’s Eve was fun.  We had the 7-course dinner at 126.  Here’s what I can remember:

1.  Amuse bouche of gelée filled strawberries and champagne
2.  Appetizer (probably my favorite course of the night):  Duck confit in phyllo pastry
3.  Soup: celeraic bisque
4.  Poached lobster on greens with vanilla vinaigrette (I ate a big chunk of Denny’s because he’s not a lobster fan)
5.  Grilled beef tenderloin…I’m sorry to say I don’t remember the exact preparation.  I got the wine pairings and they were really adding up by that point.
6.  Flourless chocolate cake with hazelnut mousse
7.  Rosemary lemon cookies with a frothy chai tea situation.

Then we went home and fought sleep until midnight, at which point we smooched and went prompty to bed.  I am too old for the party hearty life.

This is what I had for dinner last night:

    (1) ramen noodles
    (2) a banana
    (3) a Coke
and later (4) a bit of wine that at least did not come out of a box.

Aprille and Meschel win at gastric sophistication!

    it looked good

thanks for the comment. i was a 24 last summer, and i’m a loose 20 now. (i think its because i wasn’t in a kitchen surrounded by fried foods for a few months)

it was really great to see you when i came to town. i think i am going to plan a visit pretty soon, i dont know if you still go to no shame but i will see you there if you do.

I think I win the award for most unsophisticated dinner last night – leftover spaghetti and meatballs microwaved, with a side of cooked ready to eat shrimp and some rough cut two day old french bread. I haven’t been to any place fancy enough to serve a 7 course meal since I was in Ann Arbor for New Year’s at least two years ago. I don’t even remember the name, I just remember it was the hippest avant garde New Orleans cuisine in town and the wait for a table was over an hour, which almost prompted a meltdown by my best friend and a fight with my wife. I learned the hard way you don’t go to such places on the spur of the moment – make reservations FIRST. 😛
