Beautiful Duluth, Minnesota
There are good things about my job.
For one thing, a group of us is going to a conference in Duluth in July (more fun than it sounds, apparently). Rather than fly, we’re taking a van (10 hours! Woot!). In order to ease our suffering a bit, we’re each getting our own hotel room. I had our lovely admin assistant make the reservation, and she got everyone a suite in a nice-looking hotel. That’s pretty cool. I hope I’m not so busy with conference stuff that I can’t partake of the nightly availability of s’mores by a bonfire.
Denny might come with me, though, so I might have to share. That’s okay; he’s skinny so he doesn’t take up much room.
Aprille,
I checked my rhubarb today and mine looks great! I live outside of Chicago in Naperville. It was frost/freeze bitten during the last ice storm. You probably had the same storm out there. I think I’ll skip the custard recipe but, that girl’s site has amazing pics! Have you looked at http://www.domesticgodess.ca before? She has some interesting recipes.
I enjoy your site, I ran across it last Sept for some reason or another.
(You should check out Fitzger’s in Duluth when you go, it’s a classic with it’s own brewery!)

sorry, it’s domesticgoddess.ca
My dad’s family is from Duluth, I’ve been there a million times…I think that hotel is down by the lake shore…bring a coat. 🙂
The Inn is a dump! Actually, it’s supposed to be nicer than it used to be. There’s a lot more traffic down there “on the loop.” We stay at Fitger’s every year on our way up to Grand Marais, and it’s nice. Good breakfast, nice rooms, and even a Bennetton in house (for the ladies). The brewery is nice, and there’s a coffee shop with free wireless and all sorts of Bohemians sitting around behind ancient Mac laptops. There’s a nice wine store and a separate liquor store, too. It also has a fantastic view of the lake if you get a lakeside room. Oh well. Maybe next year?
