I’m a little neti pot
I recently got a cold. Usually when I get a cold, it wipes me out for two full days and I’m functionally miserable for another week at least. However, this time around, I’ve recovered faster than I ever recall. What’s new in this equation? Why, jala neti.
From wikipedia:
Proponents claim that jala neti has numerous benefits including:
- reduction of allergy problems
- improvement to breathing
- elimination of post-nasal drip
- elimination of sinusitis or chronic sinus infections
- moistening of dry nasal passages
- temporarily reduces symptoms of phantosmia
- common colds are either avoided or the duration greatly shortened
- general improvement to sinus health.
It’s pretty easy. You just make a saltwater solution in your neti pot, pour it into one nostril, and watch it stream out the other. It’s strangely satisfying.
Really, though, I enjoy it as much for the hilariousness of it all as for the health benefits. Check it:
Ha ha!
I’ve been meaning to try that. Where’d you pick up your pot?
Jamal did a No Shame piece a few months ago where he poured water in one nostril so it would stream out the other, except he called it “Snot Water.” I wonder if he knows he was on to something.
That is awesome! It’s amusing AND it helps. Now that’s a good solution!
Jack: I got it at the Co-op (Coralville). They’re up on top of a shelf with the hippie remedies. Your color choices include dark blue and green-blue.
Katy: I bet Jamal knew what he was doing. I call it “head douche,” but “snot water” is good too.
Chris: Thanks!
I just got mine today after hearing about it on Oprah on Monday. I love it!!!! I have not been able to breath this well in a long time. Everyone who has sinus problems should try it
